The Paso Fino Breed

The Paso Fino Horse is the oldest breed of horse in the Americas and is growing in popularity in the United States. This extraordinary horse is a descendant of three European breeds — the Andalusian, the Barb and the Spanish Jennet. These ancestors can clearly be seen in the Paso Fino’s size, large soft eye and flowing thick mane and tail.

Known for its smooth “no bounce” ride, the horse is smart, proud, elegant, flashy and more than willing to please. The name “Paso Fino” means “fine step,” which describes one of the unique characteristics of this breed: its evenly spaced, four-beat lateral gait. The ride is comfortable in any of the three speeds of the natural gait — Classic Fino, Paso Corto, and Paso Largo.

No wonder this breed is becoming known as the Mercedes of the horse world.
